R&B singer and actress Brandy was last month involved in a four-car freeway crash that left one woman dead, according to LA authorities.

A report from the California Highway Patrol said that the star, whose full name is Brandy Norwood was driving a Land Rover when she failed to slow down and hit the back of another car.

The car, driven by Awatef Aboudihaj, hit another vehicle, slid sideways, struck a centre divider and was then hit by an oncoming car. She died later in hospital.

The coroner’s office ruled her death an accident and the cause of the crash is under investigation.

Norwood, who was alone in her car, was not injured and no alcohol or drugs were involved, said California Highway Patrol spokesman Leland Tang.

A statement issued by the singer’s publicist said: ‘She wishes to publicly express her condolences to the family of the deceased.’

Norwood, whose hits include ‘Sittin’ Up in My Room’ and ‘The Boy Is Mine,’ has made five albums and won a Grammy in 1999.

Starting her recording career at 14, she starred in the US sitcom ‘Moesha’ and recently appeared as a judge on NBC’s ‘America’s Got Talent.’
