Brandy is facing more legal gridlock over her fatal freeway crash.
A second wrongful-death lawsuit has been filed against the Grammy-winning entertainer over the Dec. 30 car crash that resulted in the death of Awatef Aboudihaj, 38, and injuries to her two sons.
The most recent suit was filed on behalf of the Mrwan Mohamed, 14, and Kareem Mohamed, 10, who received injuries that their attorney, Paul N. Phillips, says will cause some permanent disability.
The suit, filed Feb. 8 in Los Angeles Superior Court, claims that Brandy (listed by her legal name of Brandy Norwood in the complaint) was driving her sport utility vehicle “recklessly and carelessly” when she struck Aboudihaj’s Honda on the 405 Freeway in Los Angeles and that the singer-actor was directly responsible for the crash.
(According to a report from the California Highway Patrol, Brandy smashed into a car in front of her when highway traffic slowed, resulting in a chain reaction that pushed Aboudihaj’s Honda into oncoming traffic.)
The lawsuit claims the children are facing a lifetime of emotional strife over losing their mother.
Court papers say that “as a direct and proximate result of Decedent’s passing, Plaintiffs forever lost the comfort, society, love, affection, advice, training, society, companionship, care and pecuniary and other support of their mother.”
Phillips requested that damages be determined by the court.
There was no immediate comment from Brandy’s camp. But her publicist, Allan Meyer, did release a statement after Aboudihaj’s Morocco-based parents filed their own $50 million wrongful-death action Jan. 30. Read the rest of this entry »

R&B singer Brandy is facing possible jail time over her involvement in a fatal crash.
The California Highway Patrol could charge the ‘The Boy Is Mine’ singer with vehicular manslaughter without gross negligence over the 30 December incident.
The 27-year-old, could receive up to a year in jail and $1000 fine if found guilty on the misdemeanour charge which the CHP recommended to the city attorney in Los Angeles on Monday.
The city attorney’s office will investigate the recommendation and then decide to file the charge against the former star of the sitcom ‘Moesha’.
“The office is currently reviewing the case and determining whether the evidence warrants the filing of a misdemeanour charge of vehicular manslaughter,” said spokesperson Nick Velasquez.
“We know that Brandy’s at fault for the chain reaction of the collision,” CHP spokesperson Leland Tang told People.
During the incident the Grammy winner, whose full name is Brandy Norwood, reportedly drove her 2007 model Land Rover into the back of a 2005 Toyota Corolla. In the process, she set off a chain reaction crash on Los Angeles’ 405 Freeway. Read the rest of this entry »

R&B singer and actress Brandy was last month involved in a four-car freeway crash that left one woman dead, according to LA authorities.
A report from the California Highway Patrol said that the star, whose full name is Brandy Norwood was driving a Land Rover when she failed to slow down and hit the back of another car.
The car, driven by Awatef Aboudihaj, hit another vehicle, slid sideways, struck a centre divider and was then hit by an oncoming car. She died later in hospital.
The coroner’s office ruled her death an accident and the cause of the crash is under investigation.
Norwood, who was alone in her car, was not injured and no alcohol or drugs were involved, said California Highway Patrol spokesman Leland Tang.
A statement issued by the singer’s publicist said: ‘She wishes to publicly express her condolences to the family of the deceased.’
Norwood, whose hits include ‘Sittin’ Up in My Room’ and ‘The Boy Is Mine,’ has made five albums and won a Grammy in 1999.
Starting her recording career at 14, she starred in the US sitcom ‘Moesha’ and recently appeared as a judge on NBC’s ‘America’s Got Talent.’
