Jamaica Youth Theatre wows Caribbean Drama Festival

The Jamaica Youth Theatre won three major production awards along with four individual acting awards at the recently concluded seventh Caribbean Schools’ Drama Festival held in Castries, St Lucia during January 28-February 3.
For the presentation of Sylvia Wynter’s classic Jamaica play Maskarade, the Jamaica Youth Theatre received awards for outstanding costumes and make-up, outstanding lighting and sound effects, and outstanding set design. Director Fabian Thomas also won the award for outstanding directing.
While in St Lucia, the Jamaican contingent also performed for students at St Joseph’s Convent and St Mary’s College in Castries. The group also participated in a Caribbean Cultural Extravaganza where they performed Jamaican poetry and songs.

Antigua and Barbuda, Barbados, Dominica, St Lucia, Guyana, Trinidad and Tobago participated along with Jamaica this year. The 2007 Festival was organised by the St Lucia Cultural Development Foundation. The trip to St Lucia was made possible by the CHASE Fund.
