KC’s Batchelor, Vere’s Williams recognised for effort

PHILADELPHIA, Pennsylvania –
Kingston College’s Tarik Batchelor and Vere Technical’s Kimberly
Williams were rewarded by the US-based Team Jamaica Bickle (TJB) for
their outstanding individual performances at last weekend’s 113th Penn
Relays Carnival held here.
Batchelor, who won the High School
Boys’ long jump with a personal best of 7.61m on his first trip to the
meet, and Williams who set a Penn Relays High School Girls’ record in
the triple jump (12.91m), her third straight title, were among several
TJB, an organisation formed
several years ago to see to the welfare of the thousands of Jamaican
athletes who travel to the meet each year, has been handing out the
awards for the past seven years.
The awards are held at the TJB
compound, just a short distance away from the stadium, and awardees
were presented with gift packages from Mobile telephone provider
Digicel and Western Union Money Transfer service.
Edwin Allen’s girls who won the
Championships of Americas 4x100m on Friday, the only win by a Jamaican
girls’ team, was named the outstanding female team while St Jago High,
who broke the one year-old Championships of Americas 4x100m relay in
39.96 seconds, was the boys’ recipient.
Michael Dyke, the Edwin Allen
girls coach and Danny Hawthorne the St Jago boys’ coach, were also
awarded by TJB as the outstanding coaches.
